Arthritis is a major problem in our society today and is no longer reserved for the elderly. More and more we are seeing young people with considerable degenerative processes going on in the spine. This may be related to the number of activities children partake in these
days and lack of understanding of how minor injuries can lead to larger problems down the road.
Our spine functions to support the weight of the body, protect the spinal cord and to allow for movement. If a vertebrae (spinal bone) gets out of place due to trauma or injury then the spine does not function at 100% increasing strain on the bones and soft tissues. As children we bounce back quickly and heal fast. The body is young and strong and able to compensate for these little issues but if not corrected then as we age the wear and tear builds creating a degenerative process in the injured area. This is why it is important for everyone to be under chiropractic care, young and old.
Chiropractor search for and remove subluxation (bone out of place). By doing so we allow the spine to perform it’s function with ease, reducing strain and premature break down. This increases your flexibility and stability while reducing your risk for muscle strains or pulls.
We all understand that it is important to take care of our teeth, going to the dentist for check-ups or cleanings. Have you considered the importance of having your spine checked periodically? The difference is if we do loose our teeth it is merely cosmetic and they can be replaced with dentures. There are no dentures for the spine. If they break down and loose function it is impossible to replace it or correct it. Once degeneration sets in the symptoms can be managed but full function can not be restored. Have your spine checked regularly to remove subluxation’s so you can maintain a high quality of life as you age.
The video below illustrates the progression of a normal neck becoming subluxated and then degenerating over time.
